About Rachael
Who I am personally
I am a happily married mum of two primary-school aged girls. I live a wonderfully busy life juggling both my personal and professional roles, and as such experience first-hand the difficulty that looking after oneself can be! I believe strongly in the importance of health behaviours and, despite all the challenges that modern life can create, for the most part I ‘practise what I preach’. The ways I enjoy looking after myself include socialising with friends and family, playing pickleball, reading, travelling and spending time in nature.
Who I am professionally
I began my journey to become a psychologist over 15 years ago after feeling dissatisfied with my career at the time in the business world. After completing my Masters in Clinical Psychology, my work has focussed on providing psychological counselling to adult individuals. I have consulted both privately as well as within a multidisciplinary weight management practice.
Through both my experience and my personal interest in health and lifestyle approaches to psychology, I now focus on treating disordered eating using evidence-based psychological strategies including intuitive eating principles, and improving other health behaviours through behaviour change paradigms.
As a registered Clinical Psychologist, I am professionally and ethically required to maintain very high standards in relation to my professional practice, and am legally obligated to maintain adequate professional development and therapeutic standards by the Psychology Board of Australia. I am also required to adhere to the Australian Psychological Society ethical guidelines.
Who I am therapeutically
Through my experience I have found that creating a personal and authentic relationship with each individual is vital to therapy leading to growth, purpose, resilience and holistic wellbeing. To be able to connect with you, I bring my values of warmth, non-judgemental support, down-to-earth, unconditional empathic validation, as well as a good dose of zest, energy and passion. When this kind of therapeutic relationship exists, the psychological strategies I use can more effectively lead to lasting change to improve your life.
